Information in cognizable cases

Every information relating to the commission of a cognizable offence shall be reduced to writing and read over to the informant. The informant has the right to a free copy of the FIR.

Procedure when investigation cannot be completed in 24 hours

Magistrate may authorise the detention of the accused in custody for a term not exceeding fifteen days in the whole, or up to ninety/sixty days as provided.

Anticipatory bail

Where any person has reason to believe he may be arrested on accusation of having committed a non-bailable offence, he may apply to the High Court or Court of Session for grant of bail.
